working on characters, and I find it easy to play around with one’s that are kind of ‘ready-made’ for practice rather than use my own. So, there’s some hipster!Castiel under the tag. If you’re not into fanfiction, do not read this, you will not enjoy it.
It was 7:59AM when Castiel’s alarm finally drew him into consciousness.
It was 8:22AM when he finally dragged his reluctant body out of bed. Even then, he only did that because someone was hammering on his door.
"Gabriel, I told you to call-"
"I did baby bro,"
Gabriel pushed past him, a flurry of hair and Starbucks surrounding him.
"I called you about fifteen million times, and you’ve only just woken up haven’t you?”
Castiel rolled his eyes, closing the door with both hands and not facing his brother. “Some people enjoy the comfort of solitude. Especially before nine in the morning.”
"Some people shop in the men’s department too."
Castiel spun round at that, frowning. “I like my shorts.”
Gabriel lifted an eyebrow. “Hmm, well anyway. I only stopped by to make sure you were awake and replenished with your herbal tea. I should really go help out Sammy-“
"-but don’t worry baby bro, I didn’t get it from Starbucks-" he brandished a plain coffee take out cup that smelt of perfume "-because I know you love getting all melodramatic about it-"
"There’s nothing melodramatic about wanting a large company to pay taxes!"
"-we don’t even live in England," Gabriel sighed, but shoved the cup into Castiel’s hand and walked towards the door again. "You better get some work done today," he said, eyeing the empty canvas in the corner of the room. "You know how Michael is anyway. He’d be even more intolerable if you don’t have anything done."
"You bend to his will too much-"
"He’ll be gone by tonight. Best to just please him so he’ll leave without any hassle," Gabriel answered. "Please, just do this."
He sounded exhausted, so Castiel agreed quietly.
"Okay, I’ll start working now."
"Good," Gabriel replied, and his shoulder’s seemed to loosen as he walked towards the door. "Oh, and I’ve got someone that you have to meet tonight, he’s really fun and works with his hands too-"
"I don’t like the implications."
Gabriel laughed quietly. “He’s charming, if a little angry. So please do not wear a jumper. Even a nice shirt will do. Just please.”
Castiel made a noise of injustice and nearly stomped his feet before- you’re twenty-two, get a grip!
"He could be good for you."
"Okay, okay, I’ll be polite. Now will you please go so I can shower? I still have to present my work this afternoon and get started on this new piece so please, leave me be."
"Okay!" Gabriel said, walking out the door with his hands held up. "See you tonight!"
Castiel slammed the door behind him.
It was 1:36AM when Castiel fell in between his sheets that night. But this time, he was smiling into the darkness.
